Cold Laser Therapy

Dr. Richard Turpin is pleased to announce the addition of Cold Laser Therapy – serving Ramona, Julian, Borrego Springs, Escondido and Lakeside.

What is it?

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), also known as Cold Laser Therapy or Photobiomodulation Therapy uses light to boost the body’s natural healing ability in response to pain, inflammation, swelling and muscular spasm, whilst at the same time increasing oxygen levels to sick and injured cells.

How does Low Level Laser Therapy work?

When LLLT is applied to the skin, light is absorbed by the damaged cells. This in turn triggers a reaction in the mitochondria (the powerhouse of our cells) to produce more energy, stimulating the body’s immune response, and increasing blood supply to the damaged cells, increasing tissue repair, and reducing inflammation, swelling and pain. It targets the underlying condition or pathology to promote healing, which means the results are effective and long lasting.

In summary, the benefits of Low Level Laser Therapy include:

Are there any side effects of Low Level Laser Therapy?

Although there are no known side effects of Low Level Laser Therapy, if the condition being treated is a chronic one, some individuals may experience a slight increase in their level of discomfort. This is however, a short term response that soon settles, and is due to the increase in blood supply to the affected area, and is in fact a sign that healing is taking place! Low Level Laser Therapy is a non-invasive, fast acting, safe, effective, and drug free treatment method. It has had a history of more than 50 years of use without incident or side effects.

Can it cause burns or damage the cells?

No, LLLT uses light as opposed to heat to treat the condition.

How many sessions will I need?

You may notice an improvement following your very first LLLT treatment. In as few as 4-6 treatments, you will benefit from improved blood circulation, less inflammation and cell revitalisation, enabling the body to start healing, thus effectively treating the underlying cause of the pain, rather than just treating the symptoms. LLLT also has the benefits of having a cumulative effect, with each treatment building on the previous one.

Do you have scientific research to prove that Low Level Laser Therapy works?

LLLT is fully backed by scientific research. In fact, there are 1000’s of studies available, with new ones being added almost every day!
